About Welcome

What We Do

'Welcome' is an aluminium landing craft. This means the bow door lowers down to form a small ramp so you can easily walk straight on and off without any steps or having to climb over the side. Because of this, she is perfectly accessible to both wheelchairs and pushchairs.

She is powered by very quiet, ultra low 3 star emission outboard.

We will be running 'Welcome' as a ferry service all year weather permitting:

Daily 2 hours each side of high tide, just turn up - no bookings.

Welcome is fully licensed to carry 11 passengers. The skipper is fully licensed and is a fully trained first aider.

Who We Are

My name is John, I was born and brought up in Burnham Overy and now live a few miles inland.

Watching the ferry's over the years it is something I have always wanted to do myself and so in 2021 we took the plunge and decided to set up 'Welcome' as a ferry.

Giving me the time to enjoy my love for Overy each day while also spending more quality time with my family.

You may ask why we have called her 'Welcome'. My great grandfather, Welcome Thompson used to run one of the ferries before the war delivering essentials to the people who lived in the beach houses on Gun Hill. His boat was called 'Welcome Home' and so we thought it would be fitting to call our new ferry 'Welcome' after both him and his boat.
